1870s CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE VETERANS CANE WITH SOUTH CAROLINA UNIFORM BUTTON

Very rare and original, ca1870’s Confederate Civil War Veteran’s Cane / Walking Stick featuring an original, South Carolina Civil War Uniform Button mounted on the top of the handle.
This beautiful, United Confederate Veterans Relic Cane measures approx. 36 1/2" long overall. The shaft is ebony or ebonized wood with a bone knob measuring 1 3/8” long. Embedded on the top surface of the knob is a brass, Confederate Civil War uniform button from a South Carolina Regiment featuring the state seal of South Carolina, the palmetto tree flanked on either side by "S" and "C" over an oak log. Although we can not see the back side of the button, it appears to be the button identified by Albert as “SC 16” and by Tice as “SC264 Am. 2.”.
The Cane has a horn ferule which is intact and carries no other marks or identification. It came to us from an Ohio estate / collection without provenance of any kind.
This rare and beautiful, Civil War Confederate Veteran’s Cane is in very good condition. The shaft is solid and sound with some scattered, light surface scuffs and some surface scratches but retains the vast majority of its original, polished, black finish. The bone knob has a small chip on the top edge and exhibits a rich and warm, age appropriate surface patina. The embedded uniform button has some wear to the highest spots of the stamping but no damage or repairs. The horn ferule is sound and intact with some wear but no damage or repairs.
