Description
Check out this very rare 1889 Original, Signed, & Stamp-Sealed, GAR – (Grand Army of the Republic), “Vote of thanks” certificate, presented to Frances P Janton, for, “excellent service as Commander of the post.” It isrichly framed as well.
What a stunner-- the certificate has beautiful, brightly-colored graphics, an embossed, shiny, red seal, bright gold gilding, and clear printing and signatures.
This certificate is dated, fully signed by the Adjutant and Commander, and has been stamped with the official seal of the GAR in the center.
Presented to him on January 3rd, 1889 at John A. Koltes Post, #228, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The overall measurements are 22” wide x 19" high x 2 1/8” deep.
The certificate, itself, measures 16" wide x 13" high.
Very well sealed, under glass, and framed in a heavy, sturdy, solid wood, multidimensional, period frame. It is enhanced with fine detail-painting and gold gilded.
This fantastic historical document is still in excellent condition with no edge-chipping, tears, fold-creases, rips, wormholes, cuts, stains, or other damage. Authenticatingly lightly-toned overall.
The frame is in very good condition. It has a few nicks and scuffs but no real damage. It is a quality framing job, complete with a sheet of real wood behind the certificate. There is a firmly attached, secure, hanging wire on the back. (NO cheap plastic or particleboard!)
The glass seems to have a few tiny bubbles within it, but NO cracks or chips. Not even a scratch.
A hefty piece, it weighs in at nearly 6lbs.!
A cleaning and a little wood polish would really make it sing.
Quite the conversation piece!
A fantastic addition to your GAR collection or a spectacular gift!
What a find!
