    Description

Another unusual handmade large sized 1921 postcard serving as an invitation to a meeting being held at the NB Forrest Camp in Chattanooga Tennessee. This particular postcard is unique in that it doesn’t specify the United Confederate Veterans as did all the other postcards that have been listed or that will be listed. N.B. Forrest was a prominent Confederate Army General during the American Civil War. The postcard was sent to J.H.Latimer at 513 Mable Chattanooga, who was born in 1843 and died in 1934.He served with Company I of the 49th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War and was active in the UCV after the War. Unsure of the actual meaning behind this postcard? The crudely drawn image appears to be of two people-Police? One with a pistol and one with a shotgun? Standing in front of what could be an ambulance? “Hereafter , B.B.Strouds Auxiliaries “ Now let s’more fake “ Revenuers “ try it. Don’t be afraid of a hold up. L.J.Dickinson Adjutant. During this year Prohibition was still happening and would be until 1933 ? So it’s possible that the revenuers listed were in reference to the agents of the US Treasury Department especially the ones responsible to enforce the laws against illegal distilling or bootlegging of alcoholic liquor. The postcard measures approximately 7x4 inches and appears to be in very good condition with minor rounded corners and dirt marks and dirt smudges. Sl paper loss and black paper residue at the corners. Still an amazing early piece of Southern history for your collection.
