    Description

Another unusual handmade large sized 1921 postcard invitation to the NB Forrest Camp No.4 . For the purpose of electing Officers for 1922. The United Confederate Veterans were an American Civil War veterans organization headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana N.B.Forrest was a prominent Confederate Army General during the American Civil War. The postcard was postmarked Chattanooga Tennessee and was sent to J.H.Latimer who was born in 1843 and died in 1934. He served with Company I of the 49th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War and was active in the U.C.V. after the War. This incredible postcard states “ Begin Disarmament here” and shows Uncle Sam. And other men with scissors cutting away at a huge bird with the word Germany across its body. The disarmament of Germany after WW1 was decided upon by Allied Leadership at the Paris Peace Conference. It was viewed,at the time, as a way to prevent further conflict with Germany and as a punishment for Germanys role in World War 1. Even though it’s a crudely drawn image it still is a powerful one showing Uncle Sam cutting away at Germany even three years after the end of the War . The postcard appears to be in good condition with minor rounded corners and dirt marks and dirt smudges. Corners have slight black paper residue and very minute spots of paper loss. See photos.
