    Description

Another unusual handmade large 1921 postcard invitation to the NB Forrest Camp of the United Confederate Veterans in Chattanooga Tennessee. On the front of the postcard is a crudely drawn image of a pretty young woman holding a sign that says : Votes for Women standing next to what appears to be an egg shell with Easter written on it. A statement next to the woman states: After 40 days fasting I feel refreshed and ready to go to work. Haven’t found anything related to this . The United Confederate Veterans was an American Civil War veterans organization headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was organized on June 10, 1889 by ex soldiers and sailors of the Confederate States. This particular invitation postcard states: Nothing special, but come. L.J.Dickinson Adjutant. N.B.Forrest was a prominent Confederate Army General during the American Civil War. The UCV were the equivalent to the (GAR) Grand Army of the Republic. You had to be a Southern man to join the United Confederate Veterans. A very interesting unique example of early Southern History. The postcard measures approximately 4x 7 inches and appears to be in very good condition with minor rounded corners and dirt marks and dirt smudges. There appears to be sl black paper residue at the corners. The postcard was sent to J.H.Latimer who was born in 1843 and died in 1934 . He served with Company I of the 49th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War and was active in the UCV after the War. Not only a great card for Confederate Veterans but also collectors of Women’s Suffragettes memorabilia.
