Description
This is another unusual handmade large sized 1922 postcard serving as an invitation to come to a meeting at the NB Forrest Camp held by the United Confederate Veterans Chattanooga Tenn. Henry Ford. The UCV was an American Civil War veterans organization headquartered in New Orleans. Louisiana. It was organized on June 10, 1889 by ex soldiers and sailors of the Confederate States. This particular amazing postcard has Henry Ford on the front driving through Muscle Shoals, Alabama. He appears to be driving over Congress. Ford had a dream of acquiring the Wilson dam and having a 75 mile city - farm and factory working together peacefully. But due to the opposition by Senator George Norris, a Republican from Nebraska, who felt that Wilson Dam could do more good in the governments hands than in Fords his dream never came into fruition. N.B.Forrest was a prominent Confederate Army General during the American Civil War. The postcard was sent to J.H. Latimer who was born in 1843 and died in 1934. He served with Company I of the 49th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War and was active in the UCV after the War. The postcard appears to be in good condition with minor rounded corners and dirt marks and dirt smudges. Sl paper loss at the corners as well as sl black paper residue. This is an incredible early piece of Southern history for your collection. The postcard measures approximately 7 x 4 inches.
