    Description

Another unusual handmade large sized 1922 postcard showing an invitation from the NB Forrest Camp of the United Confederate Veterans from Chattanooga Tennessee. The United Confederate Veterans was an American Civil War veterans organization headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was organized on June 10, 1889 by ex soldiers and sailors of the Confederate States. The front of the invitation postcard states to make arrangements for going to Richmond Elect Delegates. The United Confederate Veterans were the equivalent of the (GAR ). Grand Army of the Republic. The postcard measures approximately 7x 4 inches. NB Forrest was a prominent Confederate Army General during the American Civil War. The postcard was sent to J.H.Latimer who was born in 1843 and died in 1934. He served with Company I of the 49th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War and was active in the UCV after the War. On the front is a crudely drawn image of Judge James Clark McReynolds. He was an American Lawyer and Judge from Tennessee who served as the United States Attorney General under President Woodrow Wilson and as an Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court. He is best known today for his sustained opposition to the domestic programs of Franklin D Roosevelt and his overt Racism and Anti-Semitism. The front of the postcard-states Judge McReynolds hears the voice of the people. L.J.Dickinson Adjutant is at the bottom of the postcard. The postcard appears to be in very good condition with minor rounded corners and dirt smudges and dirt marks. There also is some black paper residue at the corners. Lower left corner crease as well . A very rare interesting unique example of early Southern History.
