Another unusual handmade large sized 1922 postcard is an invitation from the NB Forrest Camp No.4 United Confederate Veterans to meet “ turn out strong” on Jan.3rd , 1922 . The United Confederate Veterans was an American Civil War veterans organization headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was organized on June 10, 1889 by ex soldiers and sailors of the Confederate States. The UCV were the equivalent of the (GAR )Grand Army of the Republic. On the front of the postcard is a crudely drawn image of a young man( 1922) You g 1922 “ Git!! We’ve had nuff of you - I’m goin to work now” and shows him pointing at old Father Time “ Tom Watson, Debbs , the Blue Law, wages, prices, freight. To get out. Begin the New Year right. The postcard measures approximately 7x4 inches. It is postmarked Dec.31,1921 Chattanooga, Tennessee. Tom Watson was an American politician and lawyer from Georgia. Two years before his death he was elected to the United States Senate, but died in office. In his early years he was characterized as a Liberal especially for his time . In later years he emerged as a face for White Supremacy and anti- Catholic rhetoric. The Blue laws or “ Sunday” laws are laws that restrict or ban some or all Sunday Activities, to promote a day of rest. NB. Forrest was a prominent Confederate Army General during the American Civil War. The postcard was sent to J.H. Latimer who was born in 1843 and died in 1934. He served with Company I of the 49th Georgia Infantry during the Civil War and was active in the UCV after the War. The postcard appears to be in very good condition with minor rounded corners and dirt marks and dirt smudges. Corner wear , sl paper loss in areas and black paper residue at the corners.
