    Description
    1965 Lincoln Continental Convertible
My pappy said, "Son, you're gonna' drive me to drinkin' If you don't stop drivin' that Hot Rod Lincoln". Now the fellas was ribbin' me for bein' behind, so I thought I'd make the Lincoln unwind...Took my foot off the gas and man alive ...I shoved it on down into overdrive, wound it up to a hundred-and-ten. My speedometer said that I hit top end. My foot was blue, like lead to the floor, that's all there is and there ain't no more..I looked in my mirror; a red light was blinkin' The cops was after my Hot Rod Lincoln!
Just like the Kennedy's tooling around Hyannisport, things do not get more cool, more sophisticated, more large, more suicide doors, more convertible, and more provenance than arriving in this beauty from 1965 in the beautiful steel form of a Lincoln Continental convertible. All 216.3 inches worth, all decked out in chrome trimmings with an interior in green leather and just looks like new even though it is original and enough options to keep a 747 pilot busy with toggles and buttons, dials and gauges, and just the fact that you are behind the wheel of the coolest thing since sliced bread. Purchased new and driven by our consignor's uncle until medical reasons forced him to retire. Then upon his passing the car was in the caring and capable hands of a sister-in-law whom had the car professionally restored. Now our consignor is passing this family heirloom onto you. Jeeves, mix me up a martini and let's take a nice slow drive around the town and show off our stuff.
    Exterior
Commander Cody was right with the car's sleek lines which can make the lines on the highway look like dots. Ultra large steel panels which are very straight and minding their gaps very nicely despite their massive size, adorn this car. The Dark Ivy Green Metallic paint remains nice and shiny but is not without a few scratches, scrapes and dings. Upfront we have the BIG grille flanked by dual headlights and a massive lower bumper which wraps around the front quarter. Simply draw a straight line from this quarter to the rear, and it will only be interrupted by the dual doors one of them suicide which share the chopped off "B" pillar. Dual bands of chrome trim run atop the quarters and sills, and also a lower trim widens out and adorns the rockers. A long long hood moves its way rearward and meets up with the trimmed windshield. An overly large trunk houses the top when it is down, and you will have people paying to watch it go up and down all with the flick of a switch. The top is in white canvas and the rear window is clear plastic and both were replaced along with the mechanicals during the restoration. Bringing up the rear are the corner mounted horizontal ribbed taillights and yet another massive shiny pristine bumper. Steel wheels are on with standardfare Lincoln wheel covers and thin whites are appropriately mounted to all 4 corners. You my friend have arrived...in style with this big skate.
    Interior
If you love dark green leather, this interior is the cats' nuts. A power actuated and overstuffed dark green leather tuck and roll inserts and bolsters with a centrally mounted trim badge in the backs and a chromed tub for all to sit in, is adorning the front bench with central fold down tufted armrest. The back emulates the front same bench like qualities and another central armrest. The big square doors are trimmed in green tuck and roll vinyl, and big chromed panels to house the power windows, handles, and pulls with just a small strip of green carpet on the bottom. In front all the original dash shows very stunningly and utilizes a quad of vertical rectangles with V bezels which line up under the speedometer. Hidden panels in the central horizontal ribbed dash trim for ashtrays, A/C vent levers, and vents, and a door lock lever. Just above is the AM/FM radio, climate controls including A/C, and a clock. Below is green steel fabricated into a glovebox, and the ignition panel, along with the cigarette station which conveniently drops down...smoke 'em if ya got 'em. Bluish-green carpet floods the floors and is as luxurious and clean as the leather seating. Don't forget the original green steering wheel looking just right with a badged center that appears 3D.
    Drivetrain
A big 430ci V8 backed by an automatic transmission provides plenty of power to float this boat down the road at full sail and then some. It is topped with a 4bbl carburetor and is capable of making 320hp. Attached to the back is a Twin Range Multi-Drive 3-speed automatic transmission that reliably sends power back to a 3.25 geared Ford 9" axle.
    Undercarriage
Mostly rust free, and very clean we can note slight surface rust on the suspension, trunk floor and axle. The floorpans are buttoned up and structurally sound, as are rockers and wheel wells. Rear power drum brakes are on and up front power disc brakes. Coil sprung suspension in independent form is up front and in the rear we note leaf springs. Dual exhaust with Xlerator mufflers is on for the big exhale.
    Drive-Ability
With my love of everything mid century, I HAD to take this baby out, and it did not let me down. It started right up, and the top lowered to my amazement, (not that it worked, but HOW it worked!), and I was ready to roll. When you are behind the wheel of such a car you are nothing but ultra cool, wealthy, and large and in charge. Acceleration was snappy for a large piece of Detroit iron, shifting like silk, and the ride was Uber cushy. SO good I had to take it through the McDonald's drive through and there I was an instant celebrity with absolutely no claim to fame. I ordered the McNuggets, top of the line for this Lincoln driver, more like a test dummy, but I digress... A few flaws crept up during my drive in the form of the power seat not working, the power windows being inoperable, and the AC blowing warm.
Only the special cars get to go through the drive through, and only a few totally impress me, however this happens to be one of them. This car has the ability to charm the otherwise staunch tight lipped straight design, and loads of conveniences reserved for the well heeled car buyer from 1965. Also, that stubby B pillar that the 4 doors share in the middle, is a fascinating piece of automotive design. So is the mechanical top, and in fact the entire package. Wildly retro cool, with a heavy touch of class, you cannot go wrong with this classic if you want to impress. Hey, it looked great on the Kennedy's
