    Description

An antique Dayak rice basket or perhaps a medicine bag with carved figures. It was originally purchased from the Bareo Gallery in Singapore, China in 1991 by its original owner who was an author, traveler, and collector of African & Asian ethnographic antiques. I purchased the basket in a sale of some of his collection from his travels. He kept good records and I will include his paperwork for provenance. The basket is woven rattan and bamboo. The lid of the basket has an applied carved wooden top of 2 dragon heads and another figure that appears to be half human and half dragon or snake. The bottom of the basket also has a carved wood base with dragon heads and scrolls. It has a rope carrying strap. It is in good condition with age appropriate wear, primarily to the straps. The Bareo Gallery estimated its age to be late 19th century. It measures 17 inches H (43.5 cm) x 12 inches W (30.7 cm) x 6 inches D (15.4 cm)
