  • Condition: See Photos. Comes from a clean non smoking home. Fantastic twenty-two page account of the life of a boy who ran away from home at 15 years of age to join the Confederate Army, where he grew into a member of the Calvary. Born and raised in Fauquier County VA, he continued to stumble across his home town as he crisscrossed the state in battle after battle. Read his accounts of Culpepper and Stafford County growing up before the war and his interactions with troops on both sides (General Pope, Shields, Sedgewick, Beauregard, Jackson, Switzer). Commentary on William "Extra Billy" Smith, Union soldiers that he captured, The Black Horse Calvary, Gettysburg, and Spotsylvania. He seemed to know so many of the soldiers. He grew up and fought in the war right in his back yard. Also commentary post war, slavery, and the very full life he lived. He was born in 1847 and died in 1938, both not far from home near Waterloo VA. Seller Lot #20058.
