What this is NOT:It is
not
a kit nor a pre-built model.
It is
not
a firing model. It was designed for display only and
cannot safely be made into a firing model
.
What this IS:
It's a beautiful, historic model for your mantel or other display! The prototype of this cannon was a 24-pounder, made in England and carried aboard the famed "Old Ironsides", the USS
Constitution.
It's a CD with complete drawings, photos and text to help you with your building this model from scratch.
It's an article by T Parkinson, reprinted with permission from
Modeltec
magazine.
Its scale is, to quote the author, "just over 1 3/4" to the foot". (I have no information on what the exact mathematical ratio would be. Altogether, somewhere around midway between 1/8 and 1/6 actual size.)
Its barrel finishes out to 18.735 inches long and is 3.130 inches in diameter at the breach molding.
Its width over the trunnions is 4.80 inches.
Mounted on its carriage, the assembled model would be 20" to 21" long, depending on the insertion of the quoin beneath the rear of the barrel.
Its height is approximately 7" to 7-1/4" at the front axle.
It's carriage width is 8.15" at the axle hubs.
Barrel castings may still be available from a hobby supplier in bronze or iron. (No guarantees!) This source is listed on the CD.
It's in Adobe Acrobat format, and you can make print-outs for use in your shop.
Again, note that this is a NON-FIRING model, intended for display only. It CANNOT safely be made into a firing model.
