    Description

Circular No. 167- HQ UCV, New Orleans, Jan. 9, 1904.
Printed on dark tan paper, with color battle flag at the top of circular, concerning a letter from the Finance Committee attempting to raise money to keep up with expenses.  A price list of annual dues is printed, Lt. Generals- .00; B. Generals- .00; Colonels- .00, All others- .50.
"The Commanding General feels that this appeal will not "fall on deaf ears," but that the officers will now, as on all former occasions during the time which tried men's souls, respond promptly, as they are requested to do.   By command of : J. B. Gordon, General Commanding."
Facsimile signature of Adjt. Wm. E. Mickle.
In the right margin in red is a Note, "This was the last communication ever sent forth from U.C.V. Headquarters by Gen. J.B. Gordon - an appeal to the officers not to let the Association he loved so well die from lack of financial support."
General John B. Gordon died in 1904..this was printed in 1918, no doubt another reminder of needed funds in an ever reducing number of members.
IF YOU WANT TO READ ONE OF THE BEST POST WAR ACCOUNTS OF THE CIVIL WAR, TO GET A GOOD GRASP OF THE WAR- IT'S CAUSES, AND GORDON'S TAKE ON "AMERICANISM" FROM BOTH SIDES, NORTH AND SOUTH, HIS BOOK IS FABULOUS READ; "REMINISCENCES OF THE CIVIL WAR."
