    Description

This is a nice silver-plated metal cane handle from the September 1892 26th GAR encampment at Washington, D. C.  It is about 2-5/8" tall and is made of some sort of metal, which has then been filled and silver tinted/painted.  It has some weight to it.  I've had it in my collection of Civil War memorabilia for about 45 years; I think I got it at an antique store in Maryland, but it was a long time ago.  I've put up lots of photos to tell the story of the cane handle, the graphics and the printing.  No cane came with it; don't know if it was ever used with one.  It's a handsome piece of post-Civil War memorabilia, and it's got a couple of issues.  There is a pretty decent dent along the side on the top.  There are two cracks in the metal, one in the middle below "G.A.R." and one at the bottom.  There is some soiling and tarnishing.  Some of these, I'm told, had an image of Gen. Grant on the top/pommel.  This one doesn't.  It's a solid piece.   I've enjoyed it for a long time.  It's your turn.
Please check the photograph(s); they are an important part of the description.  If you have questions, please ask before bidding.
