Here you have a wonderful bit of VINTAGE CIVIL WAR MEMORABILIA! Please...SEE THE SCANS!! This is the PENSION CERTIFICATE for the widow of CIVIL WAR VETERAN PRIVATE CHARLES H COTTLE of the 18th WISCONSIN INFANTRY and the 6th U.S. VETERAN VOLUNTEER INFANTRY. No idea where Cottle served, but the 18th Wisconsin participated in the BATTLE OF SHILOH in 1862... BATTLE OF CORINTH II, 1862... BATTLE OF VICKSBURG, 1863... BATTLE OF CHATTANOOGA III, 1863... and the BATTLE OF ATLANTA, 1864... This certificate for Cottle's widow, Elma is dated May 17, 1897. The certificate has a rubber stamping along the right edge indicating a 1908 increase in the pension; there are also two slips and an envelope from 1916 indicating further increase in the pension.
