    Description

This original Grand Army of the Republic (G. A. R.) veteran's stud-type lapel pin (rear 'button' on fixed post) is composed of bronze (Supposedly, these items were made of bronze from Confederate cannons, but this is unconfirmed.).  The design is the G. A. R. symbol/logo and includes the full organization name and the dates 1861 and 1866, with the word
    VETERAN
between the dates.  All of the design elements are well-defined, with very good detail.  T
    his item
measures approximately 16.5 mm (5/8") in diameter, and the large rear 'button' has a diameter of approximately 13 mm (1/2").
This lapel pin is in very fine condition, with very light actual wear, signs of handling, toning, and some soiling, and it is bright.   The rear 'button' is curved, but it is unknown whether this is original.
The first two illustrations in this listing are photos of the actual item being offered for sale, serving as part of the description.  NOTE:
The photos are not good and do not show the detail of the design.  A third photo of a similar item (NOT the one in this offer) provides a good view of the design detail - very similar to the item offered in this listing.
