General Stern Signed Letter United Confederate Veterans Army Northern VirginiaThis a a single page typed letter written by and signed by Brigadier General Jo. Lane Stern in 1927 to Colonel M M Buford. An interesting letter and envelope of the Army of Northern Virginia, Department United Confederate Veterans headquarters in Richmond Virginia. The letter starts with pleasantries and then goes on to discuss why General Taylor was not elected Commander in Chief because of errors in General Taylor's War record. General Stern served as the Adjutant General of the State of Virginia, was an Alpha member of Kappa Alpha Order and was the first leader of the Richmond German, serving in that capacity for 50 years. He entered the Confederate Army at age 14 and served as telegraph boy to Robert E Lee until the surrender in 1865. The letter is in fine condition. The envelope has been torn open at one end as shown in the scan.
