    Description

    RICHARD MILHOUS NIXON
    37th President of the U.S.
    Individually and Sequentially Numbered Figurine
This listing is for a handpainted, 3D-printed plastic figurine of U.S. President Richard M. Nixon, made to look like the 3-inch Marx presidents figurines of the 1950s and '60s.
Like the Marx figurines, it is about 3 inches tall (60mm) and painted with enamel paint.  The name "NIXON" appears on the front of the base.  The back of the base says, "37th 1969-74."  It comes in replica Marx packaging, reminiscent of the "Pretested Promotions" header cards of fifty years ago.
Unlike the Marx figurines, each of these is individually and sequentially numbered on the bottom of the base.
Tens of thousands of presidential figurines made by the Marx Toy Company were sold over the years.  Thousands of these vintage collectors items have appeared on eBay as individual listings and in sets, with the most recent president being Richard Nixon.  Marx first made a Nixon figurine when he was U.S. Vice President and a candidate for president in 1960.  That pose was only available unpainted and featured "1913 - " on the back of its base.  That pose resurfaced in 1968 when Nixon ran for president again.  This time it was offered painted and in two additional variations: 1) with a blank base back and 2) with "37th, 1969 - " on the back of the base.  A final Nixon pose was designed by Marx (with older facial features and the left hand in its jacket pocket) but it was only issued in a smaller 1 3/4 inch, unpainted version.  Recasts of that pose in the 3-inch size have been issued (not by Marx) but they are rarely painted and always with "37th, 1969 - " on the back.
This Nixon pose was designed by 3D artist Phil Ramirez for Historic Figures and Patric M. Verrone, who has been producing figurines in the Marx tradition since 2003.  Thousands of these new figurines have been sold and have been featured in
    WIRED Magazine
    (www.wired.com/2009/10/st-verrone-futurama/)
    and
    The New Yorker
    (www.newyorker.com/magazine/2017/03/06/a-comedy-writer-makes-trump-collectibles).
As of this year, Historic Figures has been making the updated presidential figurines for longer than Marx made the originals.
Also for sale separately in this eBay store are figurines of the U.S. presidents Marx never made: Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George Bush, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden.  F
igurines of presidential candidates, Supreme Court justices, and other Famous Americans designed in the Marx tradition will be available in the weeks to come.
