    Description

This reverse painting of a pastoral moonlight scene features 2 types of inlay effects.  Mother-of-pearl is inlaid to create the luminosity of the moon and illuminated siding of a country mill.  Also, there is a silvery metal inlay (possibly tin) which creates shimmery effect of light on the stream.  The frame (upon which is printed the date of 1957) is extraordinary, with a few tiny cracks showing its age and adding character.  Frame measures 25.5" x 21.25" and one photo shows a dollar bill for scale.
Particularly because of the inlay effects, this is one of those items that really demands to be seen first-hand, as pictures don't do the light effects justice.
My grandfather was an antique dealer and this hung at his home for decades.  I think its moonlit night atmosphere (especially enhanced by the inlay effects) is remarkable and unique.
Reverse paintings are painted on glass, to be viewed from the other side, and thus must be painted in reverse, with the details painted first rather than last.  As a result some strokes may look amateurish compared to a normal painting, owing to the increased difficulty of painting like this.
I may be open to shipping it, but I'd strongly prefer not to, and would ask extra cost for my effort, and you'd have to understand in advance the dangers of shipping glass.
