Historical note
"Alabama" was laid on the slipway in Norfolk in February 1, 1940. The ship was built in the middle of July 1942, and at the beginning of April 1943 she started training cruises, during which she carried out the protection for the aircraft carrier "Ranger". Since May 1943 the battleship was based on Scapa Flow, from where it went out to guide polar convoys to the Soviet Union. In August 1, 1943 “Alabama” departed to Norfolk, in order to fight in the Pacific Ocean against the Japanese fleet in future. The signing of surrender by Japan and the end of World War II were met by the battleship in September 2 in the roads in Tokyo. In a couple of weeks she was sent home and then, after a short service, was put in reserve in January 9, 1947. There she was on the list until June 1, 1962, when she was expelled from the navy. The ship was saved from imminent scrapping by the public of Alabama, where she was installed as a monument in Mobile Bay.
